The Purple Star Award recognizes schools that show a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military.
A school will be honored with the Purple Star Award if it completes all the required activities, plus one optional activity. The Purple Star Advisory Board, formed by the Ohio departments of Education, Higher Education, Veterans Services, and the Adjutant General, helps decide a school’s eligibility for the award.
WHY?
Close to two million children have a loved one in the US Armed Forces. More than three/fourths of these children range from age 4-18. These military-connected youths are found in every school in the country.
The goal of this site is to provide resources to families and educators throughout the state and beyond. We parents serve, the entire families serve from the youngest to the eldest member. While originally focused mainly on Active Duty Families, the parameters have been opened to include: Pre-Service (students going into the military after school), Currently Serving, and Post-Service (veterans).
